I kept begging Laxmi ji to let me dub Madhuri's cult song "Ek Do Teen" again - Alka Yagnik at ITA School
Alka Yagnik was at her candid best while interacting with students at ITA School of Performing Arts (ITA-SPA), Goregaon. Also present on the ocassion were Director / Producer Shashi Ranjan, Chairman ITA-SPA & Rohit Dandekar, Director of ITA-SPA, Mumbai. Keeping the audience enthralled with her tips on singing, she also patiently heard the newbie singers and offered them valuable tips to improve their craft. She kept emphasizing the need for riyaaz & to get the tone, sur & throw of voice right to be a good singer.
Alka ji said " When i started singing, my throw wasnt perfect either. I have to thank Laxmikant Pyarelal to help me understand the importance of voice throw for a singer". Responding to a question on which song would she like to do differently today, Alka ji said "That will have to be Madhuri Dixit's now famous Ek,Do,Teen number, which was recorded in one sitting with a live orchestra in a cramped singing room. I barely had room to stand in the studio, there were so many people there. Also there was some strike called by the musician's union starting from that night, so we had to finish recording that song the same day before 12 midnight. After the song was recorded, I kept begging Laxmi ji to let me dub the song once more in a studio, but he kept refusing saying what we got in the one-shot recording was final. Of course the song went onto be a cult hit so I have no regrets as such."
