Pandit Ravi Shankars 95th birthday celebration!
he Ravi Shankar Centre, New Delhi brightened up with a music and dance festival on account of Pandit Ravi Shankar’s Birthday on 7th & 8th April with performances by various artists and the maestro’s birthday saw a 100 plus audience on both days which was a proud moment for every music lover. More so, his birthday was not only being celebrated here in India but also in London, UK and Cleveland, US.
On 7th April, senior disciples of Pandit Ravi Shankar consisting of Sanjeev and Ashwini(Shehnai) with Anand Shanakar(Tabla), Parimal Sadaphal(Sitar) and Vinod Lele(Tabla), Barun Kumar Pal(Hansa Veena) performed their offerings to their Guru. This event was followed by a Bharatnatyam Performance by Rashmi Khanna and a Flute recital by Ajay Prasanna with Athar Hussain(Tabla).
He is the only Indian in the world to have been conferred with 18 DOCTORATES, THE KNIGHTHOOD FROM BRITAIN, THE FRENCH LEGION OF HONNEUR, THE POLAR MUSIC PRIZE, THE PRAEMIUM IMPIRIALE FROM JAPAN, THE PRESTIGIOUS BAHART RATNA AND SEVERAL prestigious awards for his contribution to the world of music and culture. He is also a FIVE TIME winner of the Grammy Award INCLUDING A LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT. His music and legacy will keep playing and motivating generations and keeping his musical roots alive, the Shankar family will fly down to Mumbai this WINTER, 2015 to share some great stories.
